Tack on the Whistle

Start with follow the leader or a rabbit start, and then once all your sailors are in a line on a reach, have them head up to a close haul. Every time you blow your whistle they tack, this gives you the ability to see many quick tacks, or a long close haul leg, whichever your sailors need to practice more. After the upwind, take a break and then do the same downwind with gybing.

Teaching points:

  • Good tacks/gybes
  • Sail trim
  • Body position
  • Hiking properly
  • Telltales
  • Boat speed upwind/downwind

Modifications:

  • Two whistles = 360
