This drill is great to get kids increasing the speed of their tacks, and also for learning how to roll tack effectively. When sailors tack over and over at speed, they learn very quickly what works and what doesn’t. It also adds the element of fun competition, encouraging sailors to do their best.
Teaching points:
- Roll tacks
- Quick tacks/gybes/360s
- Boat control
- Taking penalties quickly and effectively
Modifications:
- Do the same thing for gybing and 360s
- Add or subtract time
- Add a box boundary that they have to stay in throughout the drill
